My cute little buddy, Sandro, has this disease and I am walking with my extremely sore muscles and joints, to raise funds and awareness this June.

Won't you please pledge some support?

Better yet, why don't you also come out and join us?
There will be fun and games for the kids, Mayor McAllion normally visits, and there is facepainting, and free refreshments (BBQ) after the walk.

Hi there,

I am fundraising on behalf of Skyway Business Solutions and Mr. Robert Bartoletta’s father John and son Sandro.
Both have type 1 diabetes.

By supporting me you will help JDRF fund vital research into cures, treatments, and prevention of type 1 diabetes.

Please join me in my efforts to help the over 300,000 Canadian children and adults living with type 1 diabetes by making a donation today.
Secure online donations can be made by VISA, MasterCard, American Express or Discover.

These poor little children are being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at very early ages.
What a cure would mean for my bosses 4 year old son Sandro is, no more testing before he eats and no more insulin pump site changes every three days - OUCH!

My dream is that no other kids, including Sandro, have to live with the challenges of type 1 diabetes and with super people like you, I can't wait for that dream to come true.

Visit my personal fundraising page to make a donation online.

Please share this link with all of your friends, family and co-workers.

Well, I'm back again!

I thought I would share with you a couple of the quilts I've made.
They are nothing fancy. They're just projects that have helped keep me sane!

I hope you enjoy!

******************

This is a baby quilt that I made for a co-worker. Process of piecing.

Completed! No quilting. Instead, I tied the inside corners of the blocks. Not sure if you can see the threads.

NEXT ...

Sheila's baby shower Crayon quilt.

I gave each guest a square of paper and a box of crayons. They were asked to draw/write something to the new mommy and/or baby. After the guests went home, I scanned the pieces of paper and printed them out on fabric. The center picture is a copy of her baby shower invitation printed out on fabric.

Still a work in progress. (My Grand-baby is going to be 4 years old May 7th.)
Other projects have jumped in line and have taken over my time but ... I plan on completing it before she starts College.

Sorry Snicker-Doodles!

I'll pull it out and take an UPDATED photo of it to show how far along it's come.

How Pretty is this?
I'm working on the same thing but I'm using BLACK as my background.

See how a trailer can be turned into a quilting haven.

Tip share: Use fabric scraps as ribbon when wrapping your mother's day present this year.

How do you like to recycle in your sewing adventures?

Isn't this a beautiful painting?

More than 90 years of Fannie May – A success story

The first Fannie May retail store was opened by H. Teller Archibald in 1920 at 11 N. LaSalle St. in Chicago. By 1935, there were nearly four dozen retail stores in Illinois and several neighboring states. During World War II, while other companies chose to change their recipes when ingredients were scarce, Fannie May stuck with its exact recipes, making only what it could which often meant closing shops early because no more candy was available - never was the taste of the candy compromised.

Through the years Fannie May developed candies that went on to become favorites that were often the center of many family and holiday traditions. For instance, Fannie May Pixies® were first made in 1946 by hand-pouring caramel over nuts and then placing them on a conveyor belt to be drenched in chocolate. Today, that combination of caramel and crunchy pecans covered in chocolate is one of the company's best sellers. That same commitment to the quality of recipes continues today, with most of the same ingredients coming from the same suppliers for many years now. Quality has always been the driving force behind the making of Fannie May chocolates. We developed this by combining a delicious product, stimulating advertising, elegant packaging and selective distribution. Fannie May's standards of excellence include maintaining our product's high quality by requiring special handling during storage and display. Our growing popularity as a premium quality product is due to our innovative approaches in manufacturing, advertising and packaging. Fannie May stands by all its products and for over 90 years has provided high quality gourmet chocolates with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.

In May of 2006 Fannie May joined the 1-800-Flowers.com family of brands. For more than 30 years, 1-800-FLOWERS.COM Inc. – "Your Florist of Choice®" – has been providing customers around the world with the freshest flowers and finest selection of plants, gift baskets, gourmet foods, confections and plush stuffed animals perfect for every occasion.

Welcome to my sewing space.
This is where it all happens.

Well, I thought I would post a few pictures of where all the sewing happens.

Notice the sign above the sewing machine that reads "Bird Crossing."
My lovely 3 year old Grand-Kidlette, Nevaeh, thought it would be funny to hang it there since my real name is ROBIN.

My sewing space is complete with a cork board for patterns & pictures. I have my Ipod and Boom box VERY close by.

Next we have a lousy picture of my shelf that holds, on the top shelf, all my quilting books and magazines. The second shelf holds my mommy's sewing basket, and all my fat quarters. The third shelf  is where all my thread and bobbins are kept. Further down are all my finished quilts as well as that HIDEOUS quilt shown before and a few UOF's. As we go along, YOU can decide whether you want to see UFO's, finished quilts or WIP so long as I can figure out how to make tabs that can take you directly to those posting. (I think it has to do with "LABELS, but I'm not too sure yet.)

Next, we have my ironing/cutting station. Hopefully, I will convince Hubby that the long table that is taking up space in the garage can be put to better use in my sewing room and one end can serve as the ironing table while the other end can be for my cutting surface.

Next, we have my design wall. This quilt only needs a few more strips of fabric sew on and the top is completed. YAY!!!   On to quilting and binding.

This is on my design wall but ... was a total mistake and I have no idea how I made them. They are liked by plenty of people so, I will eventually sit down and figure it out. My Womb-Mate loves the color green.
Maybe ... just saying See-ster!

We love to see Rebecca and Mary Fons together on screen. What do you do when you get home with your fabric and all your tools? Getting started on your first quilt can be really tough. Rebecca shows her "quilt" as it stands so far and gets a boost from her sis. Check it out for FREE!

Welcome to Bunica's sewing room

Introducing Me ~ Bunica

(That's GRANNY in Romanian)

My very first blog post!

I have been wanting to blog for awhile now and have just never found the time.

Okay, here we go ...

My name is Robin. I have been happily UNmarried to Tom for 26 years. Together, we have 2 grown 28 year old sons. Justin & Johnathan.
Justin and his girlfriend Sheila, have two beautiful daughters. Adraianna is 6 years old and Nevaeh is 4 years old.
Johnathan and his girlfriend Sarah have no children ... yet!

The picture above is of Tom, myself, Adrianna & Nevaeh.

Here's how I got into quilting.

My Husband bought me a sewing machine 12 years ago. I was thrilled! So thrilled in fact, I attempted to make a skirt. I say "attempted" because it nowhere resembled a skirt. Let me tell you ... that skirt made it to only one dance in it's very short life. It danced it's way right into the trash can and the sewing machine found it's way to the very back of the bottom of a closet where it remained for about 7 years.

7 Years later, I came across an assortment of colored fabric and decided to pull out the sewing machine and make a quilt. The only thoughts going through my head were "the Husband is leaving on a fishing trip so I have a whole weekend to start AND complete a quilt." So, I got down on the floor and started cutting the fabric into tiny little squares. I sew'd and sew'd and sew'd and once I decided I couldn't sew anymore and the quilt top is big enough, I layed down the backing fabric and then the batting and placed the quilt top I just made, on top. I basted it all by hand and then stood up. I stared down at this quilt with such a huge smile on my face. I was so proud! Taking a deep breath, pushing my shoulders back and raising my head high ... I gave myself a pat on the back. (That's because no one else was there to do it for me.)
And then ... I came up with the hair-brained idea to hand-quilt the whole thing. THAT was 7 years ago!

What? Where's that quilt today?
Why is THAT always the first question?
Well, some of you already know where it is. The rest of you ... well ... I will post pictures of it and you can see for yourself.

SHAME!

As you can see, there is alot of HAND quilting left to be done and it has no binding. Unfortunately, this quilt (I think it's hideous!) is folded and placed at the bottom of a pile of other things.

Now, 5 years later!

I'm going to start from here and post pictures of quilts that have been completed as well as some pojects that are still being worked on. This blog's main focus will be quilting with a little bit of LIFE thrown in just to add some spice and shake things up.

I would like to thank those of you following this blog. I hope you find it - if anything - entertaining. Please let all of your friends, family members and yes, strangers ... know that they have a personal invitation from Bunica to follow me around my sewing room.

ONE WORD OF CAUTION: Please watch out for electrical cords. I can't afford to be sued!
